Connect Your POP3 Email Account to Outlook
To Set up Email in Outlook
2007
- 1. Open Microsoft Outlook - all versions have a slightly
different setup, but these server settings are the same for any version.
Outlook 2007 is used for this guide.
2. If this is the first time opening Outlook, the Outlook 2007 Startup wizard will open.
Agree to any prompts and continue until you are at the Add New Email
dialog, as shown at step 3.
Note:
If the wizard does not appear, and Outlook simply opens, go to Tools
> Account Settings...then click New on the
Email tab.
- 3. Select the POP3 option, then click
Next.
4. Check the box next to Manually configure server settings or
additional server types and click Next.
5. Choose Internet E-mail and click Next.
6. In the box labeled Your Name:, enter your name as you would like it to
appear when people receive e-mail from you.
7. In the box labeled E-mail Address:, enter your email
address.
8. In the box labeled Account Type:, choose POP3 from the drop down box.
9. In the box labeled Incoming mail server:, enter your
service provider's POP3 address.
- For RCN: pop.rcn.com
- For PennTeleData/Service Electric: promail.ptd.net
- For Gmail: pop.gmail.com
- NOTE: Gmail
requires additional configuration for use with Outlook. Click

- For Windows Live/Hotmail, you
only need to download the Outlook Connector - it is found
here
with setup instructions.
10. In the box labeled Outgoing mail server (SMTP):, enter
your service provider's SMTP address.
- For RCN: smtp.rcn.com
- For PennTeleData/Service Electric: promail.ptd.net
(same as their POP3 server)
- For Gmail: smtp.gmail.com

- 11. In the box labeled User Name:,
enter the user ID for your email account.
12. In the box labeled Password:, enter the corresponding
account password.
Note: Passwords are case-sensitive.
13. Click on the More
Settings… button.
14. Click on the Outgoing Server tab. Check the box next to
My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication -
click OK.

15. You will be returned to the Add New E-mail Account
window, click Next to continue, then Finish.
